about

Back in 2013 a southern gentlemen from North Carolina ambled into my musicking with a big ol' doublebass, which, when applied to my ukulele fingerplunkings, made for some beguilingly sweet music. We played a few shows from time to time and made ourselves a recording, the Limited Emission CD, which seems to have generated much warm fondness of listening for many over the years.

Said gentleman was Ross Sermons, and his musical mastery in our collaboration gave me confidence to push my ukulele playing into some more sophisticated ideas. Inevitably, life got in the way for both of us, but we kept in touch, and in Jan 2017 we kidnapped a few days to record some of these pieces, at Ross' Shark Point Studio.

Five tracks were all we could squeeze into the time available, and they are compiled here alongside seven other solo pieces which had been earmarked for Ross' handiwork.

Inspired by oldtime jazz, swing, and loungey latin flavours, we had dreams of adding touches of clarinet, fiddle and the like, but Time, nor Tom, waits for no-one, and so here at least is an honest document of the music we were making at the time.

You can hear more of Ross & I playing together on the Limited Emission CD, and more of my other ukulele recordings on Pigbox & Co (Vol 1 & 2), and the Burn That Ukulele! series (Vols 1 - 3).
