about

A mix of organic and electronically-mutated sounds, 'hillbilly' in its lofi DIY attitude, 'space' in its layered atmospherics, 'jazz' in its explorative thinking. Overall I was aiming for a kind of warmth and sense of being wrapped in the night, lowlit as from a fire, dreamstalking but with a few daylight ambles in tracks such as Lazy Eye and No Rest For The Rippled.

All the percussion and bass tracks on this album have been meticulously cut, looped & collaged together from two seperate earlier recordings of improvised material. The intial inspiration was to create the rhythm layer first and build from there.

All the percussion textures are sourced from an hour-long improvisation I recorded on my phone a couple of years ago, playing on an old rainwater tank round the back of the house with a pair of rubber mallets. In fact, the same improvisation also included me playing the weatherboard wall of the house, and an old wheelbarrow, both of which also appear in these pieces.

All the cello bass lines are cut & looped from the final improvisations I recorded at the old Kalonga house earlier this year, before we had to move. Segments of these bass improvisations have so far also appeared on the previous albums Kalonga, Displacement Ritual and Angles Of Entry.
