about

From around 2005 - 2016, ukulele was my instrument of choice, and from late 2011 to early 2013 I documented the songs & instrumentals that emerged over that period by filming & posting them on YouTube.

Burn That Ukulele! Volumes 2 & 3 collect the audio from the videos of the 40 ukulele instrumentals I posted on YT between 2011 - 2013. The tracks are listed in the order they were posted, not necessarily when they were composed.

Back then, I could only record using the internal mic on an aging laptop, so no doubt some ears will take offense at the audio quality. I encourage the listener to think of them as 'folk field recordings', a la Alan Lomax - there are stumblings, hesitations, dud notes, the hiss & hum of the computer fan, but I present them here as an honest document, authentic to their moment. Ideally, I would have preferred to develop these pieces with full instrumentation, but life had other things in mind for me.

Versions of Indecision Tango & Hallava Time appear on Limited Emission CD, with doublebassist Ross Sermons. Versions of Yankee Strut, The Tangled Truth, & Leg In A Bear Trap appear on Pigbox & Co Vol 1. A version of Give My Heart Wings appears as Black Mountain Hypothesis on Threestringbox. Several other pieces will appear on a forthcoming album, Skedaddle!, accompanied again by doublebassist Ross Sermons, recorded in 2017.

For best results, approach with a musical imagination.
